Odysseys 9-22 March 2018, Upper Church Summerhall, Teviot, Adam House

Our 2018 programme featured screenings, Q&As, live music, theatre, performances, an art exhibition and more…

The festival, under the title ‘Odysseys’ constitured a celebration of diversity, multiculturalism and symbiosis. Drawing inspiration from the adventurous journey of the epic hero, whose goal was to return to his homeland, Syn Festival presented a multitude of events which brought together the various cultural aspects of contemporary world. In the era of Brexit, mass migration and extremist political rhetoric, the artists of the festival renegotiated the concepts of homeland and symbiosis, and reject the exclusion of social groups. With the multicultural city of Edinburgh taken as a starting point, the 2018 festival presented different ‘journeys’ of people who, through their creative propositions, envisioned a better tomorrow.
